A 5-Minute Energy Reset I Use When I Feel Overwhelmed

A simple practice to calm your mind, reconnect with your body, and reset your energy

Even five minutes of stillness can help your body relax and your energy settle.

Okay, let me share something simple that I do all the time.

You know those moments when your mind feels busy, your chest feels a little tight, and everything just feels like too much? Maybe you’ve been on your phone too long, working all day, thinking about a million things, or just feeling a little off.

That’s usually a sign your nervous system needs a pause.

Our bodies are not meant to be “on” all the time. When we’re constantly thinking, rushing, or scrolling, our energy gets scattered. We start feeling tired, anxious, or disconnected from ourselves.

So instead of pushing through it, I like to do a 5-minute energy reset.

It’s very simple. No pressure. No perfection. Just a few minutes to come back to yourself.

You can do this in the morning, in the middle of the day, or at night before bed. I personally love doing it when I start feeling overwhelmed or when my body tells me it needs a break.

Here’s how I do it

Step 1: Pause and Breathe (1 minute)

Sit somewhere comfortable. You can sit on a chair, the floor, your bed, wherever you feel relaxed.

Place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly.

Take a slow breath in through your nose.

Then slowly breathe out through your mouth.

Do this a few times.

Nothing fancy here. Just breathing and letting your shoulders relax.

Usually when I start, I feel a little tense or scattered. But after a few breaths, I can already feel my body softening.

Step 2: Let Your Energy Settle (2 minutes)

Now close your eyes if that feels comfortable.

Imagine all the busy thoughts slowly floating away like clouds.

You don’t have to fight them. Just let them pass.

Take another slow breath in.

And another slow breath out.

Sometimes I imagine a soft light around my body, like a calm little bubble. With every breath, that light feels a bit warmer and more peaceful.

This is where the body starts shifting from “stress mode” into rest mode. Your nervous system begins to calm down, and your body remembers that it’s safe to relax.

Step 3: Hands on the Heart (1 minute)

Now place both hands over your heart.

Feel the warmth of your palms.

This is something I use a lot in my Reiki practice because it helps bring the body back into balance.

Take three slow breaths here.

You can even quietly say to yourself:

“I’m safe to slow down.”
“I’m allowed to rest.”

This small moment of kindness toward yourself can change the whole tone of your day.

Step 4: Ask Yourself What You Need (1 minute)

Before opening your eyes, ask yourself a gentle question:

“What do I need right now?”

Sometimes the answer is simple.

Maybe you need water.
Maybe a short walk.
Maybe to stretch your body.
Maybe just to slow down a little.

Listen to whatever comes up.

Your body usually knows.

How You Might Feel After

Before doing this reset, I usually feel scattered, tense, or a little overwhelmed.

After five minutes, I often feel:

• calmer
• more present
• less rushed
• more connected to my body

It’s not about fixing everything in your life. It’s just about giving your body a small moment to reset.

And honestly, those small moments can make a big difference.

If you try this little reset, save it somewhere so you can come back to it whenever you need a pause.

Sometimes, five minutes is all it takes to come back to yourself.
